Paul D. Schaefer passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2021 at the age of 71.
Paul was the beloved husband of the late Noreen (nee Hybke), dear dad to Sarah (Luke) Micke and proud grandpa to Porter. Loving brother to Ruth (Bill) Johnson, Rev. William (Judith) Schaefer, and Pency (Dave) Byhardt. Preceded in death by his parents Rev. James and Ruth Schaefer, a sister Grace Kessler and brother James Schaefer Jr. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Paul was born on August 11, 1949 in Milwaukee, WI as the oldest of six children. He was baptized into the Christian faith and later confirmed at Atonement Lutheran Church where his father and grandfather were pastors. He attended Atonement grade school and went on to graduate from Wisconsin Lutheran High School.
After high school, Paul joined the Marines and proudly served his country in Vietnam. As a child, Paul had spent many happy hours at his grandparent’s cottage on North Lake and later became a full-time resident there after his military service. He enjoyed playing baseball for the North Lake Lakers and boating on the lake. He made lifelong friends on the lake who will miss him dearly.
While spending time in one of his favorite places – Mt Morris – he met the love of his life Noreen and her beautiful daughter Sarah. They married in 1988 and enjoyed building their new home together on North Lake. He loved sharing his passion for the lake with his family and could often be seen taking Sarah out skiing and tubing. In later years, he traded in the speed boat for a pontoon boat and enjoyed cruising around the lake at a slower pace.
One of Paul’s favorite past-times was his daily workouts at “the club” (aka the WAC – Lake Country) where he made many friends and enjoyed playing a variety of sports through the years including racquetball and tennis and, most recently, pickleball. Every day, he looked forward to catching up with all of the wonderful people at the club and know they will miss seeing his smiling face. Golf was another sport that Paul found enjoyable and he continued to work on his game through the last few decades with family members and friends.
Christian funeral will be held on Saturday, May 1 at Harder Funeral Home, 18700 W. Capital Drive, Brookfield, WI. Visitation is from 1:00pm to the time of service at 3:00pm.
